Karma

We are free to do as we will, however, our actions and the stories we create with others leave impressions in our wake. These impressions are the consequences of our actions. No matter how we choose to see our present and our past, the truth remains that these actions of our choosing happened and consequences follow them. It is the law of cause and effect.

Denial about our actions and their consequences changes nothing. The consequences can haunt us, weigh us down, smother us, stifle our growth and creativity, turn us toward darkness and dissolution. They can uplift us, bring us health and heighten our self esteem. They can move us in the direction of a fulfilling, love-filled life. As our actions can number toward the infinite so too can the consequences. So, it’s very important to consider how we act and those others we affect in the processes of our actions.

In the New Age movement, there is a strongly held notion that cutting etheric or psychic cords between oneself and another clears the consequences, attachments, hooks and “negative energy” in between but this is a damaging way of thinking. It doesn’t actually address anything at the core of what’s happening in the relationship between the two individuals.

The karma created with another individual must be harmonised and cleared before one can truly move on from that story and individual if they so desire. In the circumstance that the individual one has issues with is unsympathetic, uncooperative and even violent, the individual must strengthen themselves and learn to respond to the other differently rather than react to their undesirable behaviour. This interrupts repetitive and discouraging patterns and reactions of behaviour and redirects them along new pathways bringing about actual change.

Furthermore, boundaries must be put in place. These can be physical i.e. distance between people, but are more effective if they are psychological i.e. developing mental strength and the capacity to say “No” and “Yes” when needed and physiological i.e. working to make one’s physical body and wellbeing strong and healthy. From solid strength and health, the individual gains clearer discernment, their actions mature and the nature of their relationships can evolve from their core into something far more nourishing and wholesome.

Karma can be completed between individuals and there may be no further need of them to continue existing, sparking and clashing in one another’s lives. If the karma is good between individuals, there will likely be pure and loving benevolence between them and an ease in sharing joy and laughter together.
