A Seed

A seed falls from its origins to the earth. It needs sustenance from the damp darkness to awaken and anchor into the earth it is to call home. There's minimal light if any at all as it lies partially buried by organic debris. Infinite potential lies sheltered within its hard casing.

Rays of the sun beam down from above and warm the earth. Rain pours and makes the earth sodden. The seed’s casing swells and softens to allow access to its centre. It activates and shoots forth a sprout and becomes a seedling.

A seedling does not know what the journey to the sky will be like. Depending on how it has fallen means sometimes it has to sprout down before growing up, taking longer to reach the light. Sometimes it finds a direct path to the light. Once in the light, there are further trials challenging survival. Regardless, a seedling must begin a climb toward the sun, learn how to adapt to its environment and find its place among the roots and branches of others in order to survive and thrive.

There are some early narratives more graced and blessed than others but it is in the striving where true growth occurs and how we can invoke further grace and blessing. In the darkness of ignorance, we can’t predict what will happen to as as we grow and rise up. In darkness the path seems uncertain but, as we climb, we wisen, strengthen and learn to navigate more efficiently. In the striving for survival and thriving we can become active participants and creators of our narratives and invokers of grace and blessing.

Keep climbing. Keep growing.
